Upstep is an ACT Community Event and Non-profit Fundraiser designed to support and encourage our local youth. Our aim is to inspire.
A little more about us....
Upstep is a year-round "good feel" community event focused
on supporting our youth and local community. Our aim is to bring together the
local community in order to celebrate our young musicians and emerging artists,
to cultivate original material, and as a not-for-profit fundraiser, to benefit
worthy causes.
Upstep 2009 News
Firstly, we would like to take this opportunity to welcome all to 2009, we sincerely hope you had an enjoyable Christmas and New Year!
As we thrust ourselves into yet another exciting year for Upstep, we would like to welcome our new team members, Kevin Stuart (Entertainment Support), Mattew Dennis,
(Entertainment support), Louise Robinson (Volunteer Co-ordinator and Assistant Fundraising Project Manager), and Andy Irons as our official team members for
2009. It's great to have you guys aboard, and we cannot wait to see
what can be achieved with such a dedicated and enthusiastic team -
welcome.
Upstep the not-for-profit fundraiser is aiming big this year. 2009 is set to be huge as we initiate an array of original and exciting ideas to the ACT, and with boundless energy look forward to supporting The Canberra Hospital Paediatric Ward- I am sure you would agree this is a wonderful and worthy cause. Upstep 2009 Competition is thrilled to announce it's expansion to a second category for solo-songwriters, and is looking forward to awarding yet another phenomenal 'Upstep Grand Prize Package' to our deserving category winners. We cannot wait to see the talent Upstep is set to discover this year.

Congratulations to Upstep 2008's winner, Starfish Hill!!!!!

Upstep would also like to congratulate our 2008 Finalists, bringing to the stage a fantasic mix of pop rock, punk rock, metal,
indie rock, alternative, dance and electro, and acoustic punk. I believe all who were there would agree, the air
was electric for our finals and it is clear Canberra has enormous talent in it's
midst. We were also extremely fortunate to have found the company of one
very outgoing and talented young lady, Tabitha Omaji, who was our MC
for the night, and as we learned on the night, is an amazing original
Soul artist. To Tabitha Omaji, our team would like to say an enormous
thankyou for lending us your incredible
voice for the evening, and we wish you every success as you step from
your UC studies into music and all that lies beyond. We cannot imagine
you anywhere but under those bright lights, never give up the dream!

A word from the Director
We would like to say a huge thankyou to our fantastic
sponsors for their support, and for the opportunity to turn the idea of holding an event such as Upstep into a reality for the ACT; to the bands for giving us such a great show;
to both the Upstep and Red Cross volunteers for giving up their Friday
evening to help us out; and to the Canberra Southern Cross Club for
inviting us to hold Upstep within their venue. A million thankyous also to our wonderful judges, John McCarthy, Keirin Roberts (Alla Musica School of Music), Phillip Marlan and Joshua Horan, each devoting their time and valuable experience to see this event take flight.
