About Us

“UPSTEP” FUNDRAISER, 2008 Background information

Samantha (Upstep organiser) was recently attending Kaleen High School, has strong interests in human rights law, and is very passionate toward humanitarian causes. She believes very strongly in making a difference to her world, and would like to make her difference by holding a competition for local bands (members aged 16-25yrs); the proceeds to directly benefit the Tabitha Foundation Australia. Our event, “Upstep” aims to raise $10,000.

The non-profit organisation, Tabitha Foundation Australia, facilitates several projects, one of which is providing the opportunity to take part in House-Building Projects. Kaleen High school has supported this project by encouraging teachers, students and community members to raise money in order to support the foundation and in its efforts to improve the lives of the poorest Cambodians. The school also has encouraged individuals to volunteer as House-building team members, offering them the wonderful opportunity to travel to Cambodia to participate in the building of low-cost housing provided to families that are presently suffering poverty and homelessness.

All funds raised by Upstep will be donated directly toward building materials required for housing construction, and several large water wells.  Each individual well provides water, on average, to five families (40 people). By constructing water wells, many children who currently spend several hours a day collecting water from distant wells are then freed from this laborious responsibility and thus able to attend school, an initiative which benefits community development as a whole. House-building team members pay for travel costs personally, and these projects have proven to be an amazing life experience for all participants, as you may imagine.

Samantha would be very pleased to meet with either yourself, or anyone else who would like to know more about this cause, as she is very well-informed of the difficulties the Cambodian people face, and the benefits the Tabitha foundation provides to these people. Alternatively, if you would like further information, the foundation website address is found at http://www.tabithafoundationaustralia.com [1].

As a community initiative, our non-profit event fundraiser and local band competition is designed to benefit the local music culture, to support our youth and to provide support and exposure to our local talent. The prize-winning band will be selected for its potential, and in the spirit of our event, we are proud to have established a fantastic prize package thanks to the support of local business. We will continue to seek further sponsorship and donations appropriate to our efforts in providing local talent (our winning band) a “step up” toward their goals and future success.

The sentiment of our fundraiser is a sincere desire to not only support a non-profit organisation in it’s humanitarian efforts, but also to honor our sponsor’s generosity and expectations by organizing an event that is professional, exciting, both safe and comfortable for entrants and ticket-holders, and most importantly successful for all involved. We would like to offer local business/sponsors the benefit of exposure and promotion, and provide opportunity to a young talented band awaiting success. In this spirit, we believe any sponsors will be proud to be associated with this event.

Donations and sponsorship

Any donators/sponsors have seen the benefit of free advertising as a bonus to their supporting this wonderful cause. Supporting Upstep as a community initiative is also a perfect means to boosting a business profile within the local region.
